Are you concerned that your new bedding items will carry a strong wool scent? Let's address a common misconception.

If you've ever been near sheep, you know they have a distinctive smell. It's not bothersome for most people, but you certainly can't ignore it. What our olfactory system detects in the vicinity of sheep is lanolin and the dirt on the wool. When sheep are sheared, lanolin and organic plant matter (dust, grass, etc.) remain on the wool until it is carefully washed.

What kind of wool do we use in Confort Merino products?

In Comfort Merino products, we use pure wool sourced from the sheep's fleece, washed without completely removing lanolin, preserving a mild specific smell. Our wool is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 certified, and only eco-friendly detergents and antistatic agents are used in the washing and preparation process. The percentage of lanolin in Comfort Merino wool is a secret, chosen to strike the perfect balance between health benefits and ensuring a comfortably clean wool scent.

Why not remove lanolin completely?

To completely remove lanolin from wool fibres (and, with it, the smell) would mean knowingly giving up the wonderful properties that make wool sought after by our customers. For instance, total lanolin removal would eliminate the hypoallergenic properties of wool! Wool from which lanolin has been entirely removed becomes an ordinary fibre, lacking flexibility and becoming brittle. Additionally, it no longer provides protection against mites and mould.

Did you know that bacteria accumulation from sweat and natural skin shedding promotes the proliferation of bacteria, mould, and mites, generating an unpleasant odour? Our pure merino wool, thanks to lanolin, creates a natural barrier against bacteria and doesn't retain unpleasant odours!

The clean wool scent is a guarantee of lanolin's presence on the wool fibre. In other words, if the wool has a faint smell, the wool fibre still has lanolin, and the product retains all the incredible benefits of natural wool.

How do you diminish the subtle lanolin aroma completely?

Sometimes, individuals with a keen sense of smell may detect the wool scent in new products. However, with a bit of sunlight and fresh air, the scent will fade, becoming imperceptible after a period of use.

Years of study, research, product testing, comparisons with existing market offerings, and most importantly, feedback from our customers, have given us confidence that we are doing our job well and offering superior quality products.

In conclusion, don't worry if your wool product has a specific smell at first. You'll find that, in a very short time, you'll fully enjoy snuggling under the blanket – or, in our case, over your nose!
